Duggar Contractor License Lawsuit

Jason Duggar, best remembered through the reality television shows “19 Kids and Counting” and “Counting On,” is actually in this famous Duggar Contractor License Lawsuit, and that too for an unsuccessful home repair project. He is being blamed for impersonating a licensed contractor and being unable to execute the pledged work, you know? If you don’t know yet though, this lawsuit was brought forth by Mark Thompson, a homeowner residing in Benton County, Arkansas, who employed Duggar to work on his residence. While Duggar’s public attraction has attracted attention to the lawsuit but fundamentally it is related to contractor fraud, a legal matter that anybody can become a victim of.

The Lawsuit Background

Mark Thompson bought a nice house from Madison Holding LLC, a company that had a close connection to the Duggar family, in Bella Vista, Arkansas. And you see, Jason Duggar was the one who was assigned by Thompson to carry out the required repairs of the house. Thompson said that Duggar represented himself as a licensed person and he was legally required to be like a contractor to do that kind of work, you know? Notably though, as per the Arkansas Contractors Licensing Board, Duggar has no such kind of license.

The contract was for 22 repairs against a time limit of 30 days for the roof, crown molding, and other parts of the home. However, almost all of the work was left unfinished for 11 months, which led to this Duggar Contractor License Lawsuit.

Allegations Against Jason Duggar

The main charge is that Duggar played the inventorial contract that is a licensed person, which is fraud classed! He is also accused of failing to complete the agreed repairs. Several rooms were left unattended such as the bedroom and bathroom. Not just that though, issues like improper installation of sod and roofing were still unresolved.

Legal Claims and Charges

The lawsuit charges Duggar with fraud for falsely claiming to have a contractor’s license. Additionally, he faces accusations of negligence for not completing the tasks to the standards expected, as well as that, Duggar is charged with breach of contract because the repairs that were agreed upon were not finished, and although Thompson had given the money, there were no repairs to the house.

Communications Between Duggar and Thompson

The Communication between Duggar and Thompson during the months of delay was also considered, as these texts indicate Duggar’s intention to resolve the problem. Like, at one point, Duggar actually tossed the ball in Thompson’s court when he suggested that Thompson could finish the work by outsourcing it and Duggar would compensate for the costs in this case. However, this disclosure was interpreted as an indication for Duggar to avoid completion of the project by himself, you know?

Potential Consequences and Damages

So, with all that, now, Mark Thompson is seeking financial compensation in this case. He’s asking for Duggar and Madison Holding LLC to pay for the unfinished repairs and cover legal fees. The final amount Thompson may be awarded will be determined in court. For Jason Duggar, this lawsuit could severely impact his reputation, especially given the serious nature of the fraud accusations.

Broader Impact of Contractor Fraud

To be honest, in our view, this is a classic example underlining the necessity of double-checking the authenticity of a contractor’s license against their registration with the local licensing authority prior to actually going ahead and assigning the project to them. It seems though that many homeowners do not realize they are at liberty to do a fast check of a contractor’s license status with the local licensing board.
