Fulton County Voting Machine Lawsuit

Well, if you aren’t keeping up with what is going on, you see, the matter of Fulton’s lawsuit regarding the voting machines revolves around the litigation associated with the use of the Dominion Voting Systems in the states of Georgia and Pennsylvania. Just so you know though, the Dominion machines have been in the spotlight since the allegations of rigging of the results of the 2020 presidential election, together with the conspiracy theories that these devices were used to change the votes.

And that’s the reason why over and over again, however, investigations and legal decisions have come out saying there was no sign of either fraud or hacking. Not just that, this very famous Fulton County Voting Machine Lawsuit includes two principal cases taking place in Georgia and Pennsylvania where the local authorities have been debating the safety of the use of Dominion voting machines. Let’s just go over that and see what is really going on.

Background of Dominion Voting Systems

Dominion Voting Systems, a voting technology company that is generally recognized on a wider scale in the U.S., is responsible for the development, manufacturing, and sales of voting machines. If you know, yes, they manufacture machines that work by scanning and counting the print votes. After the controversial 2020 election, the company found itself in the middle of the media storm of accusations, particularly from Donald Trump’s supporters, who alleged that the election results were hacked by, among others, Dominion’s systems, you know? However, there has never been any substantiated evidence of that sort, but sure, a lot of people are skeptical about that.

From there on, several lawsuits were lodged against the companies that used Dominion machines, but the majority of them concluded with a dismissal. On the other hand, Dominion opted for a counterattack targeting some organizations and individuals as being responsible for spreading false information, you know? And regarding just that, one triumph for them was in September 2023, against Fox News, where a settlement of $787 million was made on the basis of defamation.

The Georgia Lawsuit: Claims and Court Decisions

And just this year, in 2024, a group of Republican officials from DeKalb County filed a lawsuit against the use of Dominion machines, you know, just before early voting, which is going to happen next month in November. They argued that the machines were not Georgia law compliant and expressed security concerns. The suing party called on Georgia’s Secretary of State as the principal actor to provide the voting records and ballot images to be used on the elections within 24 hours of the elections. Just so you know though, so far, the judiciary rejected the claim.

Going into the details a bit, well, Judge Scott McAfee stated that the fears of security breaches were nothing but probable guesses with zero evidence whatsoever. He said that the matter as to whether this machinery was safe or not rests with the legislature, not the judges. Brad Raffensperger, the Secretary of State of Georgia, came forward to defend Dominion, by confirming once again that the machines were indeed trustworthy and that there had been no proof of fraudulent elections in Georgia so far.

From the very start, you see, people had the idea that the lawsuit was being used to create confusion and suspicion about the 2024 elections even before voting had started. However there are still worries that some of Dominion’s systems may not be as reliable as they were supposed to be. So no one can’t say which party is in the right because it could be that these are just allegations to win some votes by the Republican party, or maybe there was really something shady going on in the previous election which can be the case in the next one too.
